What do Osteopaths treat?
Osteopaths provide care to individuals at every stage of life. They are skilled in evaluating and treating a broad range of conditions, including mechanical back pain, arthritis, sports injuries, rehab, chronic pain, pregnancy-related discomfort, and postural issues resulting from poor work/life ergonomics.
What is osteopathy?
Osteopaths are registered allied health professionals (AHPs), regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), dedicated to providing a personalised, holistic approach to health for individuals of all ages. Their expertise lies in diagnosing and treating structural imbalances within the musculoskeletal system and understanding how they connect with other body systems.
Utilising a range of diagnostic techniques similar to those in conventional medical practice, osteopaths offer a comprehensive approach to care. They work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including consultants, GPs, nurses, midwives, and fellow Allied Health Professionals.
At Osteo4Wycombe, we create personalised treatment plans to ensure a well-rounded and effective treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs. By encompassing manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises, and general wellness advice, we target the underlying cause rather than just the symptoms, aiming to deliver effective, long-lasting relief.
I treat in a ‘hands-on’ way that is non invasive using a variety of techniques.
Treatments available
Osteopaths use their hands to diagnose the underlying causes of pain and discomfort, delivering treatment through various manual techniques. These may include soft tissue manipulation, joint articulation, high-velocity thrusts (HVT), muscle energy techniques (MET), and visceral manipulation. Each treatment plan is personalised to the patient, following a thorough case history and detailed examination.
Sports Injuries
Sports injuries occur when engaging in physical activities, whether due to overuse, improper technique, or accidents during exercise or sports.
Back Pain
Back pain is common, though its exact cause is often unclear. In most cases, it isn’t due to anything serious and tends to improve with time.
Work-related Issues
Work-related injuries are physical conditions arising from repetitive motions, poor posture, or strain during job-related activities.
Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is a significant health issue in the UK, affecting millions of people. Chronic pain lasts for a long time – typically over three months – even after the initial injury or cause has healed.
Kinesiology Taping
Kinesiology taping is a therapeutic technique that involves applying a particular type of elastic tape to the skin.
Fibromyalgia – ME/CFS
The exact cause of ME/CFS is not fully understood, but viral infections, immune system abnormalities, or stress may trigger it.
